Some things around the web that I am currently obsessed with!
Since I have moved into my house by the ocean I have been obsessed with one particular area of the property. The walking path to the beach directly behind my backyard!
It’s secluded and reminds me of the lovely walk streets of Venice Beach and in the bike path in Haleiwa on Oahu’s north shore. There is nothing better than strolling down a lush, fragrant path while hearing the sound of the ocean waves in the distance. It’s pretty much heaven.
My local homeowner association gives out little awards if your back fence is well tended, the garden is clean and if the street numbers are clear.
So of course I had to come up with something fun and unique to make my oasis special.
I visited my new Hobby Lobby up here in Oxnard and was able to create my own custom sign. I love the results as it matches the fence nicely.
I’ll be refurbishing the fence and planting some new and improved succulents and grasses, but until then, here are some more pics of the gorgeous path behind my house that leads to the ocean.
My son let me keep one of his old surfboards and I’m really looking forward to making it a signature piece of art at the new beach house. Jack found this baby in the trash and used it as a template when making and shaping new boards.
I love the size of it and it’s a perfect medium for a really interesting piece.
Pinterest is full of inspiration. Here are some of my favorites and you can find the links to all of these on m Pinterest board titled Surfboard Art. Please share any suggestions or favorites with me in the comments. I will defiantly post when I am done.
This is a favorite. Check out the artist Colleen Wilcox at her website Colleen Wilcox Art. She is amazing!
A little Banksy style.
Gotta love a tiki style!
This might be too scary to actually surf on, but it’s really cool as art.
This is mesmorizing.
I love the collage style. Just a simple geometric style.
I am always amazed at people’s creativity. The reason I love these up cycled planter ideas is not only are they adorable, beautiful and fun, they’re good for the planet. Instead of adding old tires, shoes and broken plates for example, to the land fill, people are creating these lovely works of art. Here are some of my favorites. You can find more at my Pinterest board titled “Upcycled Planters”.
I have a soft spot for bar carts as witnessed by my Pinterest Board entitle…what else? Bar Carts.
Here are some of my favorites!
Why would someone throw this out? Yes it’s heavy. Yes it’s dirty. So what?
So, I rescued this guy. I thought it
needed to look older just a like a good wine or a beautiful woman, columns are better with a little age.
So I painted
Then I applied some dark wax.
Then I buffed
Then I stuck a plant on top. For now. This might end up being a side table! Who knows?
I get caught up in TV shows. I have succumbed to a Netflix addiction. I have not been a big TV watcher ever since Seinfeld went off the air, but we recently bought a ROKU device. We get Netflix and Amazon which we stream through the internet.
So far I have binged watched Breaking Bad, Mad Men (my former favorite), Orange is the New Black, Boardwalk Empire, The Americans, House of Cards and Ray Donovan.
And now…I have become obsessed with Downton Abbey. Maggie Smith is Maggie Smith. That’s all I need to say about that.
I do however have a lot to say about the beautiful rooms in Highclere Castle, the home that plays Downton Abbey.
My favorite room is the light and beautiful sitting room. One of hundreds probably. I love the pink couches and the classic design and style. That chandelier, those chairs, the moulding on the ceiling. Wow.
Just beautiful. So I’m off to watch Season Three….I can’t wait!
